National Tsing Hua University  Precision Medicine Ph.D. Program

Introduction

Introduction to the Program

Precision medicine based on companion diagnosis significantly improves cancer patients' response to targeted drugs and prolongs patient survival. The rise of immunotherapy and cell therapy has added new tools to cancer treatment. The applications of next-generation sequencing, digital PCR, and microfluidics have made liquid biopsy a promising tool in in diagnosis, prognosis, and management of cancers as well as prenatal diagnosis of genetic disorder. The combination of imaging and artificial intelligence greatly improves the accuracy of lesion identification and the speed of diagnosis and treatment. The application of nanomaterials makes the release of drugs more accurate and safer. Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) uses boron-containing drugs that are preferentially taken up by tumors than normal tissues. BNCT generates a targeted radiation cancer therapy, in which neutron beams destroy only boron compound-bearing tumor without destroying neighboring normal tissue. The above-mentioned precision medicine research has been highly active in National Tsing Hua University. The precision medicine industry cluster is being formed, and National Tsing Hua University plays an important role in training of highly-qualified professionals and experts. This Ph.D. program is committed to integrating interdisciplinary sciences of biomedicine, medical engineering, nuclear engineering, electrical engineering, information engineering, and regulatory science, into precision medicine. We aim to cultivate world-class professionals and experts in precision medicine. We encourage all qualified applicants, who are interested in precision medicine, to join us.
